20-year-old Kady Melsom, from South Shields, has become one of the NAC Group's latest success stories.

After finishing at college, Kady was unemployed for almost a year. She couldn't find a job anywhere, and felt that no one would give her the opportunity to show her potential.

Kady says that "The NAC Group and McDonald's, working together, have given me the chance I needed. The course at NAC's Sector Based Work Academy has given me a lot of retailing knowledge, including how to deal with a wide variety of situations that can arise at work."

The training focused on customer service, and covered the sales process, effective team working and other practical skills. The course also included support in making job applications and doing well at interviews.

Kady says that the work experience aspect of the training programme, in which she was based at the Boldon outlet of McDonald's, really made the course worthwhile, and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Everybody at the McDonald's restaurant made me feel welcome and helped in any way they could. The work experience gave me a good insight into the job, and made me realise that I could do it. As a result, I wasn't nervous on my first real day at work."

"Without the help of the NAC Group and McDonald's I would still be unemployed", explains Kady, "I feel much more confident since I completed the course."

Kady has now gained a permanent position as a crew member at McDonald's in Boldon. This is her first job, and she is now looking forward to starting her driving lessons and getting a car.
