Jason makes plans for the future
Jason McKitterick, from Silksworth, Sunderland, is another of our recent success stories.
Jason had previously worked in the construction trade. He was made redundant when the company that employed him failed to obtain sufficient orders. "It was an awful feeling not being able to make a living", says Jason, "when a friend at Nissan told me about the course at NAC, I couldn't wait to give it a go."
After five months of unemployment, Jason signed up for the course and commenced training in January 2012. The training took place at the Skills Academy for Manufacturing and Innovation (SASMI) next to the Nissan plant in Sunderland.
Once he was on the course he immediately recognised that the new skills he was acquiring would be invaluable when applying for a position at Nissan.
"I found the whole training process to be really beneficial - excellent, in fact. The tutors were very helpful; they dealt with every enquiry and displayed a lot of knowledge on the subject."
Jason felt much better equipped for a new job as result of the training. He managed to improve his hand skills, as well as gaining qualifications in literacy and numeracy. He also benefited from enhanced interview skills.
"I used to get really nervous going into interviews, but the interview skills that I learned at SASMI helped me to overcome those nerves. When it came to the interview at Nissan, I knew exactly what was expected of me and what to do because I had been taught these skills in the classes."
Jason started work on the production line at Nissan in April 2012. Now that he has a job, Jason feels that he can start to make plans for the future.
"It really has helped me to make a positive change in my life; I can now make a living and provide for myself. I would like to progress at Nissan and hopefully to start to move up in the ranks once I have more experience. I would like to think that I now have a job for life."
Jason would definitely recommend the NAC course to a friend or family member.
