The NAC group's Green Collar Academy will be sponsoring this year's WorldSkills competition.

This is an environmental science challenge aimed at young people who are interested in sustainable natural resource exploitation, sustainable energy production, environmental protection and climate change.

The competition is intended to raise skills and awareness in the science and engineering disciplines that will underpin the green economy of the future - in particular the environmental and alternative energy technologies.

In the competition's final, teams of young people will design a sustainable energy plan for an island society, including ways of reducing CO2 and ensuring energy security.

Paul Robson, Managing Director of the NAC Group, said: "The skills and experience developed through this competition may ultimately help us to address some of the complex social, economic and environmental issues facing the world. We need to encourage young people to get involved and apply their talents."

The competition tests the knowledge of the young people concerned, and how they can apply it to solve practical problems. As the competition flyer puts it: "By inspiring learners ... we are unlocking the potential of the UK's current and future workforce.
