Washington Metalworks Logistics Success and Investment!

Following an NAC Logistics Intervention in the pack and dispatch area of WMW - Bill Tudberry, Quality Manager said: ‘We are delighted at the successes of the project and the results achieved. At this early stage we can already see the cost savings and also the improved efficiency in the Dispatch Operators. Our Customer on-time delivery performance has improved dramatically!'
Washington Metalworks Ltd is an extensive specialist metalwork company offering a range of ferrous and non ferrous material products. They are based in the North East (Gateshead, Tyne and Wear) - they supply a range of products and assemblies from the car manufacturing industry right across to companies in the electronics industries and from local companies to national and international corporations.
The strategy for Washington Metalworks in 2009 is continuous growth in very competitive industries they have already commissioned in 2009 a new acquisition of machinery investments to increase their capacity and to strengthen their position as a leading metalwork company in the North East.
The Trumpf Laser machine which was manufactured in Germany is one of the first of this size and specification in the UK. The Laser 5030 Classic has an automatic load and off loads from a cassette which stores up to 80 tons of 25 different sizes of materials, maximum thickness mild steel 25mm and Stainless Steel 20mm.
Working with the Quality Manager Bill Tudberry, NAC supported a Warehouse logistics activity focused on Packing / Dispatch and Loading and Inventory Control relating to Over-production of parts. Process improvements were introduced to both improve the on time customer delivery performance and the issue of over production which was impacting on the on-time delivery in the form of early deliveries. There is now a traffic light system in operation to ensure the status of all completed product is known and visible.
