Outsourcing
We currently employ around 200 staff on line sequencing, vehicle distribution, quality and rework and finance, on behalf of Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK's Sunderland operations.
This service, known as MSS, was launched in March 2008 to provide outsourced logistical support. Its first major contract has involved supplying up to 100 staff to NMUK to provide line sequencing for the assembly of the Qashqai. MSS operates as an on-site supplier to NMUK, having a management and reporting structure that is integrated with NMUK's own. The Director of MSS is located within NMUK's Employee Relations Department.
MSS is responsible for ensuring that all the components - engines, gearboxes, glass, wiring harnesses, and so forth, arrive at the production line in the correct number and sequence, and just when required. NMUK benefits from this arrangement through retaining close control over this vital area of operations, and yet gaining many of the advantages of outsourced management and staffing.
MSS is also responsible for the distribution of vehicles. These are moved from the production area, in and out of storage, to and from UK ports and to the UK and Irish dealership networks. The team of around 50 staff are also responsible for inspecting the vehicles and carrying-out any necessary repairs or re-working under the Parts Quality Assurance regime.
