Apprentices
We currently employ, manage and train all of Nissan's multi-skilled
maintenance technicians. This service has been provided since 1997, and
we have trained a total of over 400 maintenance technicians for the
plant.
Multi-skilled technicians undertake a five year course
of training, leading to a Level 3 qualification and a Foundation
Degree. We organise their off-the-job training with our delivery
partners, currently, Gateshead College and Sunderland University. All
technicians receive a competitive salary from day one.
The course has been rated as 'Grade 1 - outstanding provision' by the Adult Learning Inspectorate.
Building
on this experience, the NAC Group is expanding its portfolio of
technician training programmes. There is a continuing demand from
employers for skilled technicians, and we will be responding by taking
on more technician apprentices for other sectors of the economy
including:
- Wind power generation
- The automotive after-market (servicing of cars and provision of roadside rescue)
- Green construction
All our technician programmes reflect the importance of the 'green'
approach to work and address the emerging opportunities in green
sectors of the economy.
Our technicians programme represents an
excellent alternative to the traditional 'A' level plus degree route.
It provides a theoretical underpinning, whilst learning practical
skills on the job. There are excellent employment opportunities for
appropriately trained technicians in the growing 'green' areas of the
economy.
To be eligible you must be over 16 years of age and
have a minimum of five GCSEs. Some of the programmes require these to
be at grades A-C, and they should include maths, science and English.
